As an Argentine, I naturally see parallels between the chainsaw and the budget cuts our president applied here to build trust. I like it. It forces us to shift our mental paradigm. I think the change is tangible, or at least I can feel a ripple effect of adjustment and strategic realignment: Scroll pausing the DAO, many people leaving Optimism. Scroll bet heavily on grassroots. Optimism built its narrative around public goods. We all acted in good faith and replicated that narrative, but it led us to sterile experiments. At the same time, other L1s, once mocked by ETH Maxis, gained ground and forged alliances in both public and private sectors. While organizing the 4th ETH Latam, I started thinking about what we’re leaving behind in Brazil for 2026 regarding the partners and allies to continue working on the country. Two days ago, over dinner with some Colombian OG builders in São Paulo, I asked what they thought Devcon VI had left in Bogotá’s ecosystem. After looking at each other and thinking momentarily, their answer was: maybe one or two companies grew. I didn’t have much time this year to study it deeply, but in a call with the Turkish community, we reflected on Devconnect Istanbul. I don’t know any Thai builders, but asking what Devcon SEA left behind would be interesting. We’ll see if, in a year, the BAO (Bring Argentina Onchain) narrative can move beyond the niche and reach decision-makers. But I think we all need to reflect on the intentionality behind events.
